spring break: part one

josh's family came for the first part of spring break. it was our year to spend with them and they were so kind to come to us so we didn't have to spend two days flying across the country with the kids. the first day we took the kids to a movie and just spent time playing. scott didn't get here till late that night. the next morning josh cooked his specialty "ebelskivers" for all of us. it was delicious. then we headed off to washington d.c. scott rented a van so we could all fit in one car. the ride was surprisingly easy with no traffic. it was the first time ever with out traffic! we went to our hotel and checked in then we headed into the city on the metro for the rest of the evening. the first night we were able to see all the monuments and the memorials. we didnt get back until like 10 at night. the next day we went to museum after museum. we did the air and space, the spy museum, the holocaust museum (josh and his family did) i took the kids to the native american museum. we ate at union station. and that took us to night time where we were exhausted. the next day we had private tickets to tour the capitol building. that morning we started with a tour of the library of congress. we then toured the national botanical gardens and headed to the capitol for our tour. it was amazing. it was beyond description of how truly beautiful it was. i wish we could have taken pictures. it was amazing though. if you ever get the chance to go...DO! after the capitol we went to see the national archives. we were all shocked at how you could barely read the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. after that we ate dinner at Gordon Beirch-it was the best food we had for the trip. it was such a fun trip. we drove home late that night, mostly all of us slept. the next couple days we just relaxed and then said our goodbyes. it was our best spring break ever! highlights of the trip include:
  1. first day there we were getting our metro passes and all of us were through the gate except tyler. he couldnt figure out how to put his pass in. the guard told him "we tell the young kids to hold the bear and insert the card" it was hilarious. tyler's ego was humbled for just a few seconds!
  2. it was rush hour on day two and the metro was packed. scott was standing up and the train jerked and he landed on a pour lady's lap. i didnt see it but everyone else did. scott couldnt get up. tyler acted like he didnt know his dad. it was a good laugh. poor lady!
  3. that night i was giving the kids their bath in the hotel. i had started the water in the tub and it was filling up. brooklyn was on the toilet and i was helping her...um, wipe before she got in the bath. well i guess i judged it wrong because i sat brookie on the toilet then i went to sit back on the ledge of the bath and i fell in fully clothed. i was soaked and screaming for josh. josh came in and was laughing hysterically (as was I) he tried to pull me up three times but kept dropping me back in the bathtub full of water because he was laughing too much. at this point brooklyn is screaming on the toilet because she thinks i am hurt. it was such a funny "cami" moment that will go down in history for sure!
  4. on the drive home we thought we would make it, as far as gas in the car goes, but we didnt quite make it. we had to stop in williamsburg late at night. well brody and brooklyn were passed out. when we stopped brody was sleeping but would lift his head up and start laughing hysterically, then he would stop for a few seconds and lay his head back down, then he would go again. his whole body and face was just laughing. it was the funniest thing. we kept saying his name to see if he was faking it but he was dreaming a pretty dang good dream. he kept laughing. this went on for about 10 minutes after we finished gassing up the car. it made all of us laugh to the point where our stomach hurt from laughing with him. it was SOO cute!
  5. the only lucky ones to not have anything happen to them were josh, karen, and brooklyn. i guess they are just the smartest ones!
